Clara P. Newman Aug. 26, 1920 – July 16, 2001
Services for Clara P. Newman, 80, of Natchez, who died Monday, July 16, 2001, at Natchez Community Hospital, were July 18 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel, where the Revs. David McGuffie and Gene Coley officiated. Burial was in the Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Mrs. Newman was born Aug. 26, 1920, in Fort Necessity, La., the daughter of Joseph Henry Palmer and Ida Castella Frazier. She was a homemaker and a member of the former Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Newman; three brothers, Johnny Palmer, Woodrow Palmer, and Joseph Palmer; and four sisters, Hettie Lou Newman, Katie Newman, Helen Fleming, and Stella Fleming. Survivors include one son, Amos Eugene Newman of Meadville; nine daughters, Ida Mae Coley, Nancy Lee Day, Elizabeth Ann Jamison and Peggy N. Myers, all of Natchez, Mary Louise Manley of Columbiana, Ala., Sandria Faye Stevens, Marilyn Jean Liebig, both of Manchester, Tenn., Carolyn Dean Weathersby of Athens, Tenn., and Betty Jo Green of Berryville, Ark.; one daughter-in-law, Glennell Newman; six sons-in-law, William H. Coley, Jimmy Manley, Adrian Day, Lonnie Stevens, Gregg Liebig Sr. and Ricky Green; 33 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Bill Nolan, Ronnie Walker, Jeff Liebig, Ronnie Newman, Mitch Meyers, Tracy Stewart, Kevin Coley Sr. and Justin Robinson. Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons.
