He died at the Winona Community Memorial Hospital. Earl was born at the family farm in Money Creek to Albert and Ida (Unnasch) Johnson. Earl graduated from Winona Senior High School. On January 16, 1937, Earl married Evelyn Thompson at the Thompson home on Vinegar Hill. He lived all of his life on the family farm in Money Creek until moving to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford in April, 2002. Earl was a dairy farmer who loved his farm. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a lifelong member of the Money Creek United Methodist Church where he was on the church board and sang with the church quartet for many funerals. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite.

He was survived by his wife, Evelyn; three sons: Lowell (Donna) Johnson of DeWitt, Iowa, James (Joan) Johnson of Winona, Minn. and Steven (Lynne) Johnson of Viroqua, Wis.; two daughters: Eline (Arthur) Kleist of Rushford, Minn. and Carla Johnson of St. Paul, Minn.; 12 grandchildren: Brent, Brad, Thomas, Paul, Michelle, Rebecca, John, Danial, Vicki, Ruby, Thomas, and Stacey; 13 great grandchildren; and one brother, Sidney (Alice) Johnson of Galesville, Wis. He was preceded in death by one daughter, JoAnne, three grandchildren, one sister, and one brother.
