Donald Dean Schnell, 83, of Noble, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Flora Gardens Care Center.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Stasi-Grove Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Reverend David Martin officiating. Burial will be in Noble Cemetery with full military rites performed by Richland County veterans organizations.

Donald was born December 8, 1928, in Richland County, the son of Lester and Effie (Van Blaricum) Schnell. He married Shirley Ann Badger on December 20, 1951. She survives.

He served in the United States Air Force. Donald was chief engineer/maintenance at AMF, WVLN Radio Station, Olney-Noble Airport (part-time) and 20 years at Richland Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Glenwood Church in rural Noble. Donald enjoyed being a ham radio operator for more than 60 years. Spending time in the garden, the greenhouse, blacksmithing and woodworking were also favorite pastimes.

Donald is survived by his wife, Shirley; five sons, Allen and Dora, of Fairfield, Joe and Cindy, of Noble, Marion and Donna, of Olney, Curtis and Gloria, of Olney, and Wayne, of Noble; four grandchildren, Jessica and Ryan Gentry, of Carmel, Ind., Nicholas and Andrea Schnell, of Olney, Elizabeth Schnell, of Noble, and Matt and Caitlyn Schnell, of Highland; five great-grandchildren, Katherine, Benjamin, Bentley, Eva and Madilynn; sister, Phyllis and Gene Umfleet, of Olney; brother, Kenny and Susan, of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Effie, and brother, Doyle.

Memorials may be made to Glenwood Church of Noble.
