By God's will, Ephraim O.C. "Sig" Siggers, a longtime resident of Institute, went home to be with the Lord on March 12, 2012, at Hospice Care after a long battle with cancer.

His heart was filled with love, joy, faith and happiness until the last seconds of his life.
Sig had lifelong ties to many friends and family throughout West Virginia. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. A very loving man, he was born May 15, 1937, in Montgomery to Annie and Ephraim Siggers. He attended Washington High School in London, and at an early age could accomplish anything he set his mind to.

One thing in life that he loved was music. As a teenager, he and his brother, Reuben, decided to start a band called the Kool Kats.

Sig continued to keep music at the forefront of his life, passing the gift on to his children. He was later drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country well. During his time in the military, Ephraim became a member of the military band, where he had the opportunity to travel to many countries, including Germany. After serving his country, Sig continued his walk in life, as many people do, and became an active work force member. He contributed 18 years to True Temper before spending the remainder of his working years at Union Carbide, as a coal operator, where he retired from in 1988.

Although life seems too short to many, those who were touched by Sig understand that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time. He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Siggers; father, Ephraim Siggers; and brother, Reuben Siggers.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Maria Antionette (Kevin) Wright, Angela Michelle (Donald) Cunningham and Luella Michelle Lopez; his grandchildren, Curtis Siggers, Joseph Siggers Myles, Aquila Cunningham, Donald Cunningham Jr., Alfred Lopez and Steven Lopez; his sister, Paulette Siggers Brown; four great-grandchildren; two nieces; and a host of relatives and wonderful friends.

The family would like to thank the Kanawha Hospice Care Center at Thomas Memorial Hospital for taking such wonderful care of Sig in his final days. They treated him as if he were a part of their family, and the family will never forget the kindness and warmth they showed him. They truly made him feel comfortable and rested for his journey home.

In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests that donations be made on Sig's behalf to the Kanawha Hospice Care Center, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25387-2536.

Funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, March 17, at Institute Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. James Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Preston Funeral Home, Charleston is in charge of the arrangements.
