James (called Jim) Harrigan, was born in Oswego County in Upstate New York on August 31, 1896, of parents who were first-generation Irish immigrants. He was the youngest of six children. He married Flora Rita Palmetier and they raised two daughters, Bernadette and Joan Marie. He served in the infantry in France during World War 1. On his return to the US, the family moved around frequently, wherever he could find work. Eventually they settled in Seneca Falls, NY. He suffered an industrial accident which left him unable to work at the end of his life. He was proud of his Irish ancestry and devoted to his church and family. He died of kidney failure on December 15, 1961, in Romulus, NY, at the age of 65.
