"EDWIN S. STUART'S MOTHER DEAD
She expires Peacefully After and Illness of a Few Days
Mrs. Ann Stuart, the mother of Edwin S. Stuart, the Republican nominee for Mayor, died at 2 o'clock yesterday morning, at her residence, 1202 South Tenth street. She had been ill for but a few days past, having been stricken with nervous prostration complicated by an affection of the lungs.
She was fifty-seven years old and retained all her faculties to a remarkable degree up to the hour of her death. Her passing away had been momentarily for nearly a week past, and on Wednesday last her two sons, Edwin S. and William H., were summoned to her bedside, the end being then believed at hand. She was the widow of Hugh Stuart, a cabinet maker, who died about 8 years ago.
Edwin S. Stuart was deeply attached to his mother and has remained a bachelor for all his life in order that he might be with her and devote his time to her.
During her illness he has hardly left her bedside, allowing neither business nor politics to divert him from his duty to her. Their relations were more those of companions than mother and son, and Mr. Stuart rarely left the city on a vacation or on business unless she accompanied him.
In addition to two sons Mrs. Stuart leaves two daughters, one of whom resides at the Tenth street residence, the other being married.
The funeral will take place from the house on Thursday, where services will be conducted at 11 o'clock in the morning by Rev. Dr. Thomas A. Hoyt, pastor of Chambers Presbyterian Church, of which Mrs. Stuart was an old member. The interment will be private."
