Actress. Born Margaret Alexis Fitzsimmons-Smith, she made her professional dancing debut in a Hollywood Bowl production of "Carmen." After a few B-grade movies, she received leading roles opposite Errol Flynn in "Gentleman Jim" (1942), Charles Boyer in "The Constant Nymph" (1943) and Cary Grant in "Night and Day" (1946). Married for 49 years to actor Craig Stevens, in 1972 she won the Tony Award for Best Actress for her role in "Follies." Her last screen appearance was as the New York aristocrat 'Louisa van der Luyden' in "The Age of Innocence" (1993).
