German Royalty. Born a Princess of Mecklenburg Strelitz, she spent much time in Darmstadt with her grandmother the Princess Georg. Her parents were Prinz Karl Ludwig Friedrich of Mecklenburg Strelitz, her mother Princess Frederike Caroline Luise of Hesse Darmstadt. She married the future Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia in 1793, and bore him a number of children. She is remembered as possibly the most beloved of Prussia's queens, and for her devotion to her country, even at the price of intervening personally on its behalf with Napoleon Bonaparte.
