DR. EDGAR ODELL LOVETT, born at Shreve, Ohio, April 14, 1878 [sic], son of Zephaniah Lovett and Mary E. Spreng Lovett; married Miss Mary Ellen Hale, daughter of Major Henry S. Hale of Mayfield, Kentucky. Degrees: A. B., Bethany College, 1890; A. M., So. M., 1892; M. A., Ph. D., University of Virginia, 1895; A. M., Ph. D., University of Leipsic, 1896; honorary degree LL. D. conferred bv Drake University 1898; same by Tulane University 1911. Professor of mathematics at West Kentucky College 1890-1892; instructor in astronomy at University of Virginia 1892-1895; student Leipsic and Christiana 1895-1896; Fellow by courtesy Johns Hopkins Univensity 1897; lecturer on mathematics at University of Virginia and University of Chicago 1897; instructor in mathematics at Princeton 1897; assistant professor of mathematics at Princeton 1898-1900; professor of mathematics at Princeton 1900-1905; resignation from Princeton effective 1908; then after a year spent in travel became resident of Houston 1909 as president of Rice Institute. Is a Fellow of Royal Astronomical Society and of American Association for the Advancement of Science.
