Joseph Holt Green joined the confederate army at age 15, was born in Bedford Co., TN in 1846. He came to Texas in 1868 and settled near Fort Worth, where, in 1874, he married Nancy Caroline "Callie" Haley, originally of Shelbyville, TN. He first came to Coleman Co. in 1871, while driving cattle over the old Chisholm Trail to Abilene, KS. So impressed was he with this part of Texas, that he purchased farm land and he and his wife settled in the eastern part of the county along the Jim Ned. Here their six children were born and reared, attending Bee Branch and Santa Anna schools. After 25 years on this farm, they bought land just west of Santa Anna, where they lived until moving to Coleman in 1924. Callie Green died in 1935, and Joseph Green, died in 1936 at age 90.
