Jesse Earl Metcalf was born 31 May 1895 to William David and Mary Eliza Hancey Metcalf. The day of his birth was his paternal grandmother Rachel Seamons Hancey's 61st birthday.

Jesse grew up on his fathers land on the corner of Ririe Highway and Iona North Road, (which is now North 55th East and Ririe Highway).

Jesse married Alice Lucinda Freeman on 17 July 1915, which was performed by Judge Lewis A. Lee, at the Idaho Falls Courthouse.

(Judge Lewis A. Lee also had a connection to my paternal grandmothers parents : Henry James and Eva Mae Griffeth Bodily, in regards to transfer of ownership to their home, at 5482 East Rockwood Road in Iona on 12 May 1923 (David Metcalf)

Jesse got his parents out of debt, after taking possession of the farm in 1917, following his parents passing on the farm to him.

5 June 1917, he signed up for the World War I Draft Registration, he was 22 years old and was listed as working on the David Haderlie farm, just down the road (Ririe Highway) from his farm. He was tall, medium build and had black hair and grey eyes, at the time.

At the time of his World War I registration, he was married, and a father of 1 child (Marvin Earl) who was 13 months old.

He spent time as a part of the old Scrabble school's trustee, in the Ucon area. (As his father William David had done prior to Jesse Earl doing so, and I have the minutes to those meetings).

He was someone who made sure all was well with his land and the things on it : for instance in 1930 he had his appendicitis act up on him, and before he went to the hospital to take care of it, he checked everything he needed to on his land, and they later found out while doing so, that his appendix burst, happily he survived this health setback.

He moved from Ucon, Idaho where he was living on his father William David Metcalf's land, and went to Leslie, Idaho in April 1939, to a place that was in really bad shape, and whose previous owner (Mr. Sutter) had been killed by a hired hand. He did a lot of work on the place and the land to make it the show place of the Lost River Valley.

A month after moving out to Leslie, Idaho, his grandson Bart was born on 11 May 1939.

As my father Bart was growing up he had the honor and great privilege to spend time with his grandfather on the farm. (My father, had many happy memories of this time period, and shared them with his own family).

In 1940 he sold the farm, he and his father had owned, which is located on the corner of Ririe Highway and Iona North Road to the Alfred Alonzo and Mary Adella Godfrey Cooper family :

In 1942 he signed up for the World War 2 Registration.
He was 47 years old.

In January 1946 he and his wife Alice Lucinda Freeman Metcalf were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple.

In 1952, Jesse switched houses with his son Dale Robert, who was raising a growing family, Mackay, Idaho, to the house located on Rose Avenue, just a little ways from U.S. Highway 93.

Jesse Earl Metcalf was elected to go to Boise, Idaho to serve in the Idaho State Legislature in January 1955, However, Sadly a month prior to doing so, he passed away in the front room, at his home in Mackay, Idaho :

Jesse Earl Metcalf passed away 5 December 1954, and SADLY his wife Alice was not their, she was on her way back from Salmon, Idaho, after assisting one of their kids with the grandkids and when she got to their home in Mackay, she was stopped by the doctor who lived across the street, before she could go inside the house, where Jesse had passed away from a heart attack in his chair, in the front room.

Jesse Earl's name and his wife Alice's is listed on a memorial plaque in Mackay, at the park just down the street from where he lived, in Mackay, Idaho.

Update : 2013
Jesse and Alice's son Lynn bought the old home place in Leslie, Idaho, and did wonderfully getting the place into shape, after years of neglect.

Bio typed by his 1st great grandson David Metcalf.
