Lewis was the son of James and Mary Johnson McKinney. He married Lillie F. Wheeler and they had 7 children: Fern, Myrtle, Leoda, Jessie, Delmar, Glen, and Madge.

For unclear reasons, Lewis committed suicide by taking a razor to his own throat.

Lillie died in 1940.

Louis D. McKinney was born in Texas county, Mo., November 13, 1871; departed this life Dec. 19, 1921, making his age 50 years 1 month and 6 days. He was married February 26, 1896, to Miss Lillie Wheeler, daughter of Judge E.H. Wheeler, formerly of this neighborhood, and he is survived by his father, J.W. McKinney, of Houston, his wife and several brothers: Lon McKinney, of Cotton Plant, Ark.; Rance McKinney, Kenset, Ark.; George McKinney, Louisiana; H. E. McKinney, Cabool; Dalton McKinney, Texas; sisters: Mesdames Florence Williams and Maude Steffens, both of Louisiana, and the following children: Fern, Delmar, Glen, and Madge, who are yet at home, and Mesdames Lance Miles, Virgil Smith and Troy Stair. He was a member of Texas Lodge No. 372 I.O.O.F., of Houston.

L.D. McKinney was an honest, upright citizen and a good neighbor and he will be greatly missed in the community in which he lived as well as throughout the county. He was County Highway Engineer and proved to be the right man in the right place and the roads throughout the county will show his handiwork for years to come. He always had a pleasant word for those he met.

After his marriage he and family moved to Colorado where they lived awhile, then came back and bought the farm where he lived at time of death. He was a good provider for his family, of which he was very proud.

He professed religion in early life, but never joined any church, but so far as we know always lived a moral life.

His family have the sympathy of everyone here. May God give them power to withstand the shock of his death.

His remains were laid to rest in Ozark cemetery the 21st; the funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.J. Carty in the presence of the largest crowd we have ever seen at Ozark. The Odd Fellows buried him in the full honors of their lodge service.

Thus ends a useful life, and as there is nothing impossible with God, we hope his soul has found rest. The family circle is broken, the first link from the chain has been severed. God alone can heal the wounded hearts of his family, but let us remember that for every trial that we have, if we ask it, God will give us sufficient grace to bear it. "My grace is sufficient for thee:" "I will never leave thee or forsake thee:" "Lo, I am with thee always, even unto the end of the world."
