The following account of the death of Nancy (Peterson) Pond was discovered in the C.A. White Scrapbook of newspaper articles listing deaths and marriages between 1889 and 1894. This newspaper clipping is located on page 12 of the Scrapbook. The Scrapbook is located at The Archives of the New Brunswick Museum in Saint John,N.B.

At Gibson, York Co., on the 10th of October, Nancy, beloved wife of Deacon Hazen Pond, aged 77 years. Sister Pond gave her heart to Christ, in her girlhood, upwards of sixty years ago, under the labours of the late Henry Cronkite, was by him baptized and united with the F. C. Baptist church-Nashwaak.

Subsequently, she became a resident of Marysville, and transferred her membership to what is now known as Marysville church . About three years ago, when a Free Baptist Church was organized.

At Gibson, residing there, she became one of the first members of that body, and remained an earnest, faithful, member until called to her rest. Her Christian life was an unanswerable argument in favor of the glorious possibility of unswerving constancy in following Jesus. During her lengthy pilgrimage she never permitted an opportunity to pass where a privilege was given to acknowledge the Saviour, but she loyally held him up as the object of her warmest love, and commended him to others. She had no backslider's experience of her own, but no one had more anxiety and care for any who stepped aside from the narrow path and needed sympathy and help. The pastor ever found her a wise counsellor, a skilful worker and a reliable friend. The little church at Gibson will miss her greatly but, with bowed heads and sad hearts, we submissively say, "one less in the church militant here- but one more in the church triumphant above." Such a consistent, faithful christian life could have but one ending. When the messenger came, though unexpected, she found ready. For her "to die was gain"-"absent from the body," was to be "present with the Lord"- Sister Pond was the daughter of the late John Peterson of Marysville, and one of a family of fourteen children, of whom seven are living She was widely connected, universally respected and is sincerely mourned.

She leaves a disconsolate husband, with whom she walked pleasantly life's journey for 45 years; and one son and two daughters mourn their sad bereavement.

Her pastor was absent at general Conference when she died, but on his return, a memorial service was held on Sunday the 28th ult., when a large congregation gathered, showing their appreciation of her worth and their sympathy for the mourning friends.

As shown above, Nancy (Peterson) Pond died on the 10th of October, 1894.

She was survived by her husband, Hazen Pond, as well as by her three children: Sarah Olive (Pond) Downing, Joseph Sanford Pond, and Drucilla Ann (Pond) Butler.
