He was in Donald McIntosh's Company G at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. He was a blacksmith, but was in the fight that day. Company G was one of three companies that Marcus Reno lead across the Little Big Horn to attack the indian village. They were routed and had to make a hasty retreat back across and up a coulee to what is now known as Reno Hill where they fended off the indians until Gen. Terry arrived, with the companies of Reno, Benteen and Weir.
