Mr. Baldwin

Gus George Baldwin, 80, of Franklin, dies Thursday, August 10, in a Sylva Nursing home.

A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late W.E. "Gene" Baldwin and Geneva Parrish Baldwin. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the 605th Tank Destroyer Battalion, former owners of Baldwin Supermarket and Big Dollar, and once operated the Franklin Lodge.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church, where he served as former chairman of the deacon board, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teach, and served on various committees. He was a Boy Scout leader, and received the Order of the Arrow award.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years. Virginia Gray Baldwin; four daughters, Elaine Bradley of Franklin, Dana Baldwin of Hillsborough, Genevieve Stanfield of Powell, Tenn.; and Julia Schiebel of Marietta, Ga.; three sisters, Ruby Cansler, Nora Jean Kinsland and Lolita West, all of Franklin; one brother Ralph Baldwin of Franklin; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 12, at First Baptist Church. Revs. Harold Ball and Joe Sustarsic will officiate. Burial will be in the Rush Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., Thursday, one hour prior to the service

Pallbearers will be Mark West, Bob Cansler, Dan Cansler, Mike Kinsland, David Kinsland, Gregg Kinsland and Jack Baldwin.
