Mrs. Porter was the ninth child born to William Herschel and Laura Alice Pettey on November 15, 1918 in Mahl, Texas.
She was a secretary for Longview ISD and retired after 27 years having served as the President of the Longview Secretaries Association.
For over 60 years she was a proud member of the First Baptist Church in Longview and loved her Bible Club.
Mrs. Porter enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and being a member of the Camellia Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Madison Jones Porter, a Longview attorney.
She passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 24, 2010 surrounded by her loving family and wonderful caregivers Deborah Deskin and Jolene Jennings.
Mrs. Porter is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law Diane and Ned Patrick of Arlington, TX, Suzanne and Pete Gordon of Denver, CO, Jane Ellis Statton of Southlake, TX; grandchildren Craig Patrick, Claire Casteel, Edwin Gordon, Todd Gordon, Chad Gordon, Tori Statton, and Madison Statton; fourteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
