Mildred Gertrude "Gertie" Gibson, 86 of Lancaster, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

The daughter of William Clifford and Esther (Swindler) York, Gertie was born on December 1, 1925 in rural Lancaster, Missouri. She attended Jaybird Darby Rural School and later graduated from the Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Missouri. On September 25, 1944 in Olathe, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Don Gibson and to this union two sons were born, Mike and David.

Gertie is survived by her husband, Don Gibson of Lancaster, Missouri; 1 son, David Gibson and wife, Alania of Bloomfield, Iowa; 1 daughter-in-law, Judy Gibson of Nevis, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; other family members and many good friends.

Gertie is preceded in death by her parents; 1 son, Mike Gibson; 1 sister, Mary Kucler who died on May 15, 2012 and 2 brothers, Orval and Gerald York.

Gertie was a very devoted member of the Orleans Church of Christ in Moulton, Iowa as long as her health permitted. She worked in the telephone office in Lancaster and Kirksville, Missouri followed by working at Bruce's Furniture in Bloomfield, Iowa for many years as a sales representative.

Because of Gertie's wonderful personality, she was able to make friends easily. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and her family will certainly miss her contagious laughter.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Jerry Weller, pastor of the Orleans Church of Christ of Moulton, Iowa officiating. Special musical selections will be provided by Vanessa Weller and Becky Dalrymple. Pallbearers will be Nathan Gibson, Joshua Gibson, Marty Gibson, Travis Dunbar, Lyle York and Cale Hutchings. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri between the hours of 6-8:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Northeast Regional Medical Center Fourth Floor Nursing Staff. Burial will be in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, Missouri. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.
