Gladys Howard Anthony, 78, of 155 Windsor Road, Bassett, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
A native of Statesville, N.C., she was born on March 26, 1924. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, William Ellis Howard and Lena P. Howard; her husband, Thomas Arthur Anthony; and two brothers, Elbert Gray Howard and William Ellis Howard Jr.
She graduated from Mitchell College in Statesville and was a member of Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was active in several capacities including the Early Bible class. She was also a past president of American Legion Auxiliary Post 11, Bassett, and a member of the Bassett Homemakers Club.
Surviving are one daughter, Sarah E. Anthony of Martinsville; two sons, Thomas Arthur Anthony of Kings Mountain, N.C., and Ralph H. Anthony of Bassett; two sisters, Lavalette H. Anthony of Bassett and Mary E. Tatum of Blacksburg; one brother, Blake Presley Howard of Prescotte, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. James Meredith officiating.
Norris Funeral Services is handling arrangements. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
