Martha E. Smith, 100, of Fulton County Medical Center, Extended Care Unit, formerly of Coalmont, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at 8:30 a.m. She had been in failing health for the past year.
Born Sept. 3, 1900, in Riddlesburg, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and P. Alice (Hershey) Rabenstein. She was united in marriage to Charles Edwards and later to Glenn Smith. They both preceded her in death.
Surviving are the following children: Pete Rabenstein, Saxton; Marie Kroh, Fayetteville; Sarah Hawkins, Harrisonville; and Aubrey Edwards, Akron, Ohio. There are 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Two sons, Arthur and John, and three grandchildren preceded her in death. Two brothers and two sisters are deceased.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Raven Run Church of the Brethren.
She was primarily a homemaker and retired from Bedford Springs Hotel after a number of years.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton,with Pastor George Clippinger officiating. Interment was in the Mount Pleasant cemetery, Cooks.
