March 3, 1961 - DEATH - Death Takes Leland E. Grissom, age 51 years, of Rural Route 3, Shoals, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, March 3, at his home. He was born June 18, 1909, in Martin Co., the son of Everett and Mae (King) Grissom, both living at Williams, IN. Mr. Grissom was a farmer. He was married to Edith Grace Ray, who survives, with ten children:

Mrs. Grace Hovis,
Mrs. Delema Taylor, both of Shoals;
Mrs. Mary Mitchell; of Indianapolis;
Mrs. Frances Troutman, of Montgomery;
Mrs. Lela Holt, of Mitchell;
Loretta,
Delores,
Phyllis, Linda and
Leland, all at home.

Three brothers and two sisters survive, Elmer and Harold, both of Williams; John, of Bedford; Mrs. Thelma Mefford and Mrs. Ruth Thomalson, both of Sarasota, Florida. Funeral services were held at the Queen Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Ernest Holt in charge of the rites. Burial was made in the Mt. Olive Cemetery. Music was furnished by Elsie Tuell, Sonya Tuell, Mary Lou Jones, with Ella Holt as pianist. Pallbearers were Kenneth Mitchell, Ronald Troutman, Robert J. Holt, William Hamblin, Henry Taylor, Jr. And Paul Hovis. (Shoals News 3/8/1961)

Note: Leland Grissom had rheumatic fever when he was a boy. He died of a heart attack. He worked as a farm hand.
