Donald Franklin Calkins, 63, of 1610 Lyons, Mt. Pleasant, died July 18 at Central Michigan Community Hospital.
He was born October 9, 1912, in Vernon Township, and was a resident of Mount Pleasant for 35 years. He was employed for 14 years as a maintenance foreman for the Michigan-Ohio Pipeline until his retirement in 1969.
Surviving are his wife, Edna L.; 2 daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Donna Marie) Hanley, Portland and Mrs. William (Vietta Mae) Wood, Mount Pleasant; 2 sons, Robert Franklin, Memphis, James Roy, Grayling; 12 grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. George (Alethia) Shayler, Clare; 1 aunt, Mrs. John (Mable) Tomaszewski, Harrison; 1 uncle, Mr. Bert Anderson, Harrisn; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 22 at the Stinson Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, with Rev. John V. Gates officiating. Burial was at the Cherry Grove Cemetery, Clare. Clare Sentinel dated 7-28/1976 (Thanks, Tom Ladner for typing this obituary!)
