Carl lived his married life with Alice in River Park, South Bend, Indiana at 945 S. 33rd street. He worked for many years at Tepe furniture store as an upholsterer. He would often be seen in TV commercials repairing furniture. His TV spot would show him using an upholstery hammer. Alice had a needle point hobby. Carl would find ways to display the needle point that Alice made by using it as part of an upholstery project in their home's furniture, i.e. an ottoman or hassock or armchair covers. After Alice's death, he spent his remaining years at ST Paul's retirement center. Carl died Tuesday in his doctor's office at 919 E. Jefferson Blvd. He retired in 1983 from Tepe's. He was born Nov. 9, 1907 in Grant County, IN., and living in South Bend since 1947, coming from Milford.

Shed died in 1977. Surviving Carl are two nieces, Mary Jane Manuwal of Plymouth IN., and Eileen Abott of Huntington IN.. Carl was a veteran of World War II, and a member of American Legion Post 284.
