Son of Alonzo Marshall Alexander and Cecilia McCants Alexander.

Graduated United States Naval Academy 1918.

At the close of World War I he was a member of the Red Cross Peace Commission in the Baltic Sea area.

In 1924 he received the Engineering Trophy for highest merit while in command of the United States Navy Submarine R-26.

Youngest teacher ever appointed at the U.S. Naval Academy 1925-1927.

In 1933 he succeeded his father as owner of Alexanders Music House founded in 1896, Spartanburg's first in the exclusive sale of all musical intruments and accessories.

President of Retail Merchants Bureau 1940-41.

During World War II he served as chairman of the Spartanburg OPA Committee.
