James was a son of Chalmers and Annie S. Brodnax Glenn of Rockingham Co. NC. Husband of (1) Mary Brodnax Glenn, and (2) Sara Staples Hairston Glenn. He had a monument erected in memory of his mother, Annie near his own grave. It is not clear whether his parents are actually buried there. The monument reads---To My Mother Annie S. Glenn wife of Chalmers Glenn---A Faithful Wife--A Devoted Mother--She Rests In Peace With God. (Note: James´father, Chalmers Glenn was an attorney in Rockingham Co. NC. He was also a Captain in the 13th NC Inf--CSA.)

(Note: James and Sara had a daughter, Alice Hairston Glenn Whittle, 1899-1983.)
