- Jewell Pennington Gooch Schwarzwalder, 86, Rowlett, Texas, formerly of Bloomington and Fairbury, passed away peacefully Sunday (May 27, 2012) at Dallas, Texas, after a long illness.
She was born April 15, 1926, in Blaine, Ky., daughter of Clarence and Carrie Wheeler Pennington. They preceded her in death.
She married Ray Arthur Gooch and had two children. When widowed, she met and married Willis Schwarzwalder and celebrated 43 years of marriage.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Garland, where she and Willis enjoyed volunteer activities, working in the Friendship House and the shut-in ministry. Jewell also shared her warmth for others and love of sewing by providing lap quilts for shut-ins. She volunteered at Children's Medical Center in Dallas and retired as a longtime employee of the Dallas County Tax Office.
Jewell was preceded in death by three sisters and her first husband.
Those left to cherish her memories include her husband, Willis Schwarzwalder; son, Clarence Gooch and wife, Marie, of Longwood, Fla.; daughter, Laura and husband, Deacon Larry Bate Jr., Carthage, Texas; grandsons, Capt. Jonathan Bate and wife, Capt. Jill Bate, Fort Campbell, Ky.; Capt. Stephen Bate and wife, Kristin, Euless, Texas; and Larry Bate III and wife, Laura, McKinney, Texas; and great-granddaughter, Lauren Bate, McKinney.
