MUNCIE--E. Marie Giles, 97, went to be with the Lord Monday morning, May 28, 2012 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May 6, 1915 in Frankfort, the daughter of Samuel Robert and Blanche (Sheets) Paris.

Marie graduated from Michigantown High School, received her Bachelor's Degree in English from Adrian College in Adrian, MI, and moved to Muncie in 1968.

Mrs. Giles was a school teacher for ten years in Adrian, MI, a librarian at Ball State University from 1970 to 1980, and was involved in The United Methodist Church for 65 years as a minister's wife.

She was a member of College Avenue United Methodist Church, Faith and Works, United Methodist Women's Society, Lamplighters Sunday School Class, and Adrian College Alumni Association. She was also active with the Annual United Methodist Conference, and volunteered at the Muncie Mission, Second Harvest Food Bank, and with the Red Cross during World War II.

Surviving are her son, George S. Giles, Muncie; her daughter, Garnie S. (Giles) Truax (husband-William), Aurora, CO; her granddaughter, Kara Marie DuQuette (husband-Michael), Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. A. Dale Giles; two sisters, Lois Beesley and Ruth Emens; and a brother, Robert Paris.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2012 in College Avenue United Methodist Church with Pastor Chip Gast officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. on Friday in Hopewell Cemetery, Clinton County. Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday or one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Ann Oliver Scholarship Fund, College Avenue United Methodist Church, 1968 W. Main St., Muncie, IN 47303.
