Helen Meriwether Cross, 75, of 2045 Greenville Road, died at 7 p.m. Saturday at Pinecrest Manor nursing home, following a long illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Edgefield Baptist Church, Pembroke, with the Rev. W.L. Baker officiating and burial in Cave Spring Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gamble Funeral Home, with family members to greet friends from 6:30 to 8:30 that evening.

A native of Montgomery County, Tenn., she was born Feb. 25, 1918, daughter of the late James and Ora Isabel Meriwether. She was a homemaker and a member of Edgefield Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Mothers Board, Senior Choir and Missionary Society.

Survivors include her husband, John W. Cross Sr.; three sons, John W. Cross Jr., Hopkinsville, the Rev. Robert Cross, Columbus, Ohio, and Charles Cross, Louisville; five daughters, Dorothy Winston, Jessie Ennels and Roberta Babbage, all of Louisville, Frances Foust, Burlington, N.C., and Betty Catlett, Hopkinsville; a brother, Ollie Meriwether, Clarksville, Tenn.; two sisters, Adeline Layne, Detroit, Mich., and Mamie Ruffing, Nashville, Tenn., and 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
