This memorial is in honor of my sweet, beautiful MOTHER, Dorothy, a mother who grows a Garden of Love.

~ Kind hearts are the gardens; kind thoughts are the roots; kind words are the flowers; kind deeds are the fruits ~ God gives us all we need, so we can give to others in their need. My mother, Dorothy, would give anyone in need.

I feel that in the heavens above, the Angels whispering to one another, can know among their burning terms of love, none so devotional as that of "My Mother".

I had four engraved bronze memorial plaques placed to honor my mom at the Mother's Prayer Wall in the beautiful annunciation garden located at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Illinois, where millions of people visit every year. A Shrine memorial is a permanent remembrance set in the peaceful and prayerful atmosphere of the Shrine.

My mother was born and raised a Catholic. When she was younger she attended St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church and in later years became a parishioner at St. Dominic Catholic Church. She used to tell me stories about how her mother made sure she attended Church after Catholic School every Friday in addition to Sundays. My mom loved and cherished her great-grandchildren. And she always loved when they visited her. She had lots of pictures of them in picture frames around her living room and would often look at them with great love when she passed by. In my mother's younger days, she loved to play cards with her mother and aunts. And she enjoyed going to cabarets with her family and friends. She was so very feminine and loved soft, sweet and beautiful scents. Her bedroom and bathroom were full of bubble baths, shower gels, lotions and perfumes. I knew just what to buy her for her Birthday, Mother's Day and Christmas. I used to always tell her that she smelled just like a rosebud. On weekends and some weeknights, my mother and I would take long rides in the car everywhere. We would stop and get something to eat, like her favorite custard. I really enjoyed and miss those many times we spent quality time together, just the two of us. She also enjoyed sitting on her patio. Every Halloween she enjoyed going trick-or-treating with her grown children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would just sit in the car when my sisters would take the kids to the houses to get candy. Her favorite candy was milky way. Our house is where her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would come for parties, dinners and celebrations. She especially loved to cook for Easter, Mother's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas and she made sure she fed anyone in need of a nice home-cooked meal. She made the best sweet potatoes and pototo salad. The Christmas Season was her most favorite time of the year. During the Christmas season, our house would be filled with lots of nuts and hard candies in crystal dishes. She had a beautiful home which was always so very festive especially during the holiday seasons. My mother truly had a flair for decorating. She had a beautiful living room with the colors of bronze and gold. She loved watching the Hallmark Channel during the Christmas Season. Some of her favorite Christmas shows included Home Alone, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year and Silver Bells. My mother loved when the weather was cold and sometimes when it snowed. She always made sure her house was very warm and cozy.

~Mom, if I could see you for just a little while, it would turn my frown into a great big smile~

~If I had a flower for each time I thought of my mother, Dorothy, I could walk in my garden forever~

I would like to thank everyone for visiting my mom's memorial page and leaving the beautiful flowers and tokens. She was a very special person and is truly missed by all who love her. May God bless all of you.
