The son of John M. Bartko and Emily Stavisky, he graduated from Princeton High School and worked at DeLaval Steam Turbine Co before joining the Marines.
He married Mabel Greatti in 1943, announced in Trenton Times January 2, 1944. They moved to Virginia where he was stationed. George was a Private First Class, Battery G, 13th Corps, 5th Marine Division, World War II, killed in action, Iwo Jima.
He was interred at Dutch Neck Cemetery on December 28, 1947.
