OBITUARY
HELEN W. "BILLIE" ADKINS, 80 of Milton, W.Va., graduated to heaven Friday, May 5, 2006. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at Portersville Cemetery by the Rev. David Vickers. She was born September 9, 1925, in Portersville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Alley and Gertie Dillon Whitt. She was a school teacher in Lincoln and Cabell Counties and taught at Milton Elementary School until her retirement in 1987 after 31 years of service. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Rosa Blankenship, Pauline Hall and Dorothy Estep. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Raymond D. "Ray" Adkins; one daughter and son-in-law, Sonya and Roger Wagner of Barboursville; one son and daughter-in-law, Johnnie and Diane Browning of Milton; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Mary S. and George Salisbury of Conyers, Ga.; two stepsons and daughter-in-law, John W. and Amanda Adkins of London, England, and James R. Adkins of St. Cloud, Fla.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren; and also many "adopted" children that she has helped along the way of life, and many many friends. Billie was a devout Christian lady with the love of music and always had a willingness to teach others music and God's love and mercies. She sang with many quartets and gospel groups in Lincoln and Cabell Counties, and founded the Browning Quartet and Joyful Sounds. She attended Portersville Baptist Church.
