Infant son of Robert C. and Rachel V. Lane. Died at 2 1/2 years. May have died as a result of the worst epidemic in American history that killed over 600,000 Americans during World War I. In three waves, the Spanish flu spread quickly, killing an estimated 50 million to 100 million people around the world. While the first wave of the Spanish flu had been extremely contagious, the second wave of the Spanish flu was both contagious and exceedingly deadly. The third wave lingered. Some say it ended in the spring of 1919 while others believe it continued to claim victims through 1920. Eventually, however, this deadly strain of the flu disappeared.
