Long Beach, CA - Thomas McCredie (Thom) Rowell, age 62, died of pancreatic cancer on May 17, 2012 at his home in Long Beach, CA. Thom was born March 23, 1950 at Monroe Memorial Hospital in Ocala, FL, to E. M. (Bo) Rowell and Dollie (Dot) Elston Guess Rowell, of Ocklawaha, FL. Thom was a graduate of Lake Weir High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Florida State University. While in Tallahassee, he was elected Master Councilor of DeMolay. After graduation, he was employed by Magic Pan and National Cash Register Co. His passion was boating. As a licensed Mariner and accomplished yachtsman, he delighted in cruising his Grand Banks Yacht, "Intrepid", along the California coast. He was an active member and former Commodore of the Horizon Yacht Club. He is survived by his partner of 16 years, Steve Hicke, of Long Beach, CA; brother, The Rev. E. Michael Rowell, and sister-in-law Amy; nephew, Charlie Rowell and partner, Joe Cox; niece, Margaret R. Good and husband, Richard. Thom was much beloved and is greatly missed by his family and friends. A Service of Internment will be held at the Ocklawaha Community Cemetery, located on S.E. 122nd Place, Ocklawaha, FL, on Tuesday, June 19th at 10:30 AM. The Rev. Ted Koelln, of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Fruitland Park, will officiate. A memorial service was previously held on May 21, 2012, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Long Beach, CA. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 02201 Spring Lake Rd., Fruitland Park, FL 34731.
