Jasper is a son of Asa, born NC, and Leah Brickey Brewer, born Tenn. The 1860 Knox County, Tennessee Census shows Asa, 52, Leah B, 28, Rebecca C, 28, John S, 21, Ellen , 19, and Jasper N, 16, and six other children.

Copies of Civil War records from Washington DC, obtained from the library at Wilson's Creek Battlefield show Private Jasper N Brewer enrolled and mustered in Company D, E Reg't East Tenn. Inf. February 10, 1862 at Flat Lick, Kentucky commiting to 3 years of service. He mustered out February 23, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee at the end of his 3 years of service. This form states he was age 16 (can't be right). He had last been paid August 31, 1864, and was owed $100.

In the 1870 Dade County, Missouri Census Jasper is 24 years old, born in Tennessee, living with and working as a farm laborer for the John W Frieze family.

In the 1880 Dade County, Missouri Census Jasper, 33, is married to "Seriney", 34. Living with them are: William R Cheek, 21, farm laborer; Thomas Tygart, 19, farm laborer; and Thomas Whiteside, 6, orphan.

In 1910 Jasper, 65, a widower, is living alone on his farm. The Jane Long, age 92, family lives next door.

Jasper, a widower, died at age 80 of Pneumonia. The informant of his MO death certificate looks like Tom H Brewer of Aldrich, MO.
