Sweet little Louie, my beautiful Toy Poodle, came into my life in August 2005, 6 1/2 years ago. Picked up as a stray on Spring Street in Little Rock, he was in very bad shape. Apparently he had been on the streets for awhile and hadn't eaten in a long time because he was extremely thin. I found him at the city shelter and no one was inquiring about him because they thought he was a senior dog. I decided to adopt him anyway and what a blessing he was in my life.

After getting him all cleaned up and fed, he was the most beautiful dog, but what really set him apart was his sweetness -- he was the sweetest dog I have ever met -- very quiet, laid back and loved being held. He would lie in my arms all day if he could, and yes I let him. That is not to say that he didn't have fun; when his big brother Barkley was with us, he and Bark ran, played and slept together often. Louie and I had some fun too -- we would race up to the top of my hilly driveway and of course he would win. He loved sunning himself on the back deck and found that while inside he loved lying on the bed most of all, digging and rolling in the covers until he found a nice warm spot.

Louie had the sweetest face and he did the most charming things, like spinning. Whenever he was excited he would start spinning around in a circle to show his happiness. He loved to ride in the car, walk around town on his leash and we took many trips together: Memphis for one, and all over Arkansas. He was the perfect companion - and he loved his Nana, Jean Lensing who took care of him while I was away and with whom he spent a lot of time - and his Grandad Thomas Lensing, who called him Louis' the 14th.

Unfortunately, at the end of March of 2012, Louie became sick with kidney disease. At first the vet said he would probably make it, but after a month of going in and out of the hospital his kidneys once again began to fail and he had internal bleeding. On Tuesday, April 24, 2012, I finally let Louie have the peace that he so much needed. I held him in my arms as he left this world. My heart is forever broken into a million pieces, but I know he will always be in my heart.

Louie didn't get the chance to live out his full life's potential, but the 6 1/2 years we were together were some of the happiest in my life - and I think his too. I'm so glad I was able to give him as much happiness as he gave me.

May your spirit soar my sweet little heart -- I love you always.
