KIRCHER - Sister Mary Bertha, a Dominican Sister of San Rafael for 67 years, died on Sept. 2, 1999, at Lourdes Convent in San Rafael, after a long illness. She was 87 years of age. Sister Bertha taught at St. Vincent Ferrer Elementary School in Vallejo before serving as Purchasing Agent for the Dominican Sisters. For nearly 30 years she worked in the business office and coordinated kitchen and housekeeping services at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stockton. In later years, Sister Bertha worked in the business offices of Dominican College and Dominican Convent, San Rafael, until her retirement in 1984. She continued to do volunteer work with such groups as Marin Handicapables until her health no longer permitted.

Sister Bertha is survived by her brothers Thomas Kircher of Benicia, Philip Kircher of Sonoma, and John Kircher of Albuquerque; by her nieces Janet Philips of Petaluma, Susan Kircher, Diane Kircher and Sara Franey of San Francisco.

The funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Sept. 6, 1999 at the Dominican Sisters Gathering Space, 1520 Grand Ave., San Rafael, at 1 p.m. Burial will be on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999 at St. Dominic Cemetery in Benicia. Memorial contributions may be made to Lourdes Convent, 77 Locust, San Rafael, CA 94901.
