FITCHBURG - Edward Scofield Waterbury, age 90, of Fitchburg, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012, at his home.

He was born on May 15, 1922, in Watertown, the son of Parkis and Ruth (Mueller) Waterbury. Ed served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1947. Ed married the former Anita Krause on April 23, 1966, in LaCrosse. He was employed by the Financial Division of Department Stores Woodward and Lothrop in Washington, D.C. and Carter, Hawley, Hale of Los Angeles, Calif. While in Washington, D.C., he was part of the restoration of Ford's Theater. He was also Chairman of Controllers Congress of the National Retail Merchant Association. Ed was a member of the Civil War Round Table in Chicago. For 32 years, Ed was treasurer of First Lutheran Church and School in Glendale, Calif.

Ed loved to golf and was able to do so around the world. This was a very important part of his life where he formed many wonderful friendships. Ed was a member of several golf clubs; Congressional in Bethesda, Md.; Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania and Oakmont Country Club in Glendale, Calif., where he served as president. He also served as president of the member's club of the Southern California Golf Association. As a loyal Badgers fan, Ed had season tickets to their football games for over 60 years. He was also a loyal Cubs fan since the age of nine. Ed was an avid reader especially enjoying history.

Ed is survived by his wife, Anita; sisters-in-law, Adele Waterbury of Fitchburg and Dorothy Balfany of LaCrosse; brothers-in-law, Robert (Carol) Krause of Rhinelander and Keith (Pat) Krause of Holmen; cousins, Barbara Mueller of Madison and Marge Mueller of Jefferson; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Parkis Waterbury; and cousin, Richard Mueller.

Funeral services for Edward were held at THE CHURCH AT CHRIST MEMORIAL, 2833 Raritan Road, Fitchburg on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, with the Rev. Jeffrey S. Meyer presiding. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in LaCrosse.
