From the Fall River Herald News, June 6, 1934:
Miss Helen Woodbury Winslow of Assonet, died Tuesday morning at the home of Mrs. James H. Winslow, North Main street, in that town. She had been in failing health for some time, but was confined to her bed only for a short time. She was born in Freetown in January, 1854, the daughter of James and Betsey (Harlow) Winslow and was one of seven children. She was a graduate of Bridgewater Normal school and taught schools in Freetown, Lakeville, Rockland, Mass., and Lansing, Mich. Miss Winslow resided for many years on Locust street, Assonet, on the tract of land originally bought from the Indians by the Winslows. She was postmaster for 13 years, at the time when the post office was located in the Guilford H. Hathaway Library building. She had been a member of the Assonet Congregational church for 60 years and had long been a member of the Ladies' Aid society connected with that church. She made it her home with her niece, Miss Helen Paull of Myricks and her sister-in-law, Mrs. James H. Winslow. Miss Winslow was of a very quiet and retiring disposition and highly esteemed in the community. Surviving are the following nephews and nieces: Frederick Paull, Chicago; Helen Paull, Myricks; Edward Davis, Fitchburg; Alfred M. Davis, Wallingford, Conn.; Mrs. Gladys Nichols, Harrowgate, Tenn.; Mrs. Ruth Moreland, New London, N.H.; and Miss Eleanor P. Winslow, Assonet. Funeral services will be held at 2 from the residence of Mrs. Winslow, North Main street, Assonet. Burial will be at the Winslow burying ground on Locust street in that town.
