Audrey Ardette Anderson was born July 19, 1913 at Alta, the daughter of J. Peter and Mary (Johnson) Anderson. She was raised on a farm north of Alta and educated at Highview Consolidated School graduating with the class of 1931. The following fall she enrolled at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and began a long career in education. She taught in the Iowa public schools of Cornell, Hinton, and Clear Lake; and served as Elementary Principal in Charles City.

In 1940 she married Donald White of Storm Lake. They made their home in Storm Lake where Audrey taught several years at Hayes School.

Don died in 1962. Audrey had continued her professional training, earning Masters and Doctorate degrees in Education from the University of Arkansas.

In 1963 she joined Buena Vista as a professor of education. Buena Vista held a special place in her heart and throughout her life she enthusiastically gave BVU her love, loyalty and support. She established a scholarship fund for worthy students and enjoyed hearing from the recipients in later years.

Audrey married Dr. Paul W. Brecher in 1968 and began a second phase of her life. She retired from Buena Vista and enjoyed family, church, friends, bridge and golf, among other things. After Paul's retirement in 1973 the couple spent many wonderful winters at their home in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Audrey was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter NL and the Order of Eastern Star. She served a term as a member of the Buena Vista College Board of Trustees and also served on the Storm Lake Public Library Board. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Buena Vista County Historical Society and the BVRMC Auxiliary. While at the University of Arkansas she was an active member of Kappa Delta Pi, an honor society in education.

Survivors include her daughter Becki and husband Layton Zylstra of Storm Lake and her two grandsons Matthew Paul and Tyler James Zylstra of Storm Lake; her sister, Muriel Rickard, also of Storm Lake; stepson Don White, Jr. and wife Marge of Northbrook, Ill.; step-son Michael Brecher of Storm Lake; nieces and nephews.
