Widow of LDS church leader dies
SALT LAKE CITY - Ariena Stok Vandenberg, 88, died June 13 at her home in Sandy. She was the widow of the late Elder John H. Vandenberg, an emeritus General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Sister Vandenberg was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, a daughter of Jan and Jannigje de Bel Stok. She immigrated to the United States soon after she joined the Church in the Netherlands. Her Church service included assignments in Primary, Young Women, Relief Society and as a member of many ward choirs.
She married Elder Vandenberg in 1930 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and they were parents of two daughters. Elder Vandenberg died June 3.
Funeral was June 17 in Salt Lake City.
