Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Torman Funeral Home, Paw Paw with Rev. Ken Foster officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home on Oct. 18.
Mr. Swope was born Aug. 12, 1932 in Compton to Ralph and Mary (Hampton) Swope.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Jr. (Patty) Swope of Coram, Mont. and Kenny (Diane) Slaughter of Oswego; two daughters, Carol Jones of Columbia Falls, Mont. and Marilyn (Donald) Holmes of Aurora; four step-children, Sonny Evans, Tobie Evans and Stella Beck of Montana, and Ricky Evans of Missouri; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters, Janet (Merrill "Red") Hough of Sun City, Ariz., Barb O'Connor of Roberts, Wis., Mary Kay (Tobie) Evans of Coram, Mont. and Linda (John) Brumley of Mendota; and two brothers, Don of Mendota and Larry (Carol) of Mendota.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jean.
Mr. Swope owned a commercial painting and sandblasting business in the Compton area in the 1960s and 70s. He later moved to Columbia Falls, Mont. where he was a guide in the Bob Marshal Wilderness in the 1980s. He loved to hunt, fish, and garden.
