Mr. Dear is a WWII veteran and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
He was interviewed for the Willits News in 1996 and had this to say:
"I was in the hospital with a broken leg that day. I was right in the middle of it. I remember all the casualties brought in and helped out in any way I could.
"I served as 2nd Class Electrician on the USS Pennsylvania." "Most injuries were bad burns, but I'll tell you one thing, there was no panic that I know of."
"There was lots of rumors going around the Japanese had landed but in my case I got so busy I didn't even know there was a second wave."
