Mom after shovelling a massive snow in our patio.

While not a glamour photo, this shot encapsulates my mom's spirit best. It was just like her, after a snowfall, to get out early and shovel. For whatever reason, she enjoyed it and did it well for many years. Here, she stands inside our inner patio, after she and Dad had cleared a path from the garage side door. You can see how high the snow was; that she would be smiling after such a big undertaking is just like my mom.

Behind her in a large pot you cannot see, is a hemlock. That poor hemlock sat in the corner of our patio for years, and got hammered annually by snowslides coming off the corner where the two roofs met. It's still alive (barely), split and choppy from years of abuse. I can remember when Dad had brought it home, a mere seedling, from the Poconos. As rough as it is today, I still want to hang onto that raggedy hemlock.
