Funeral services for Mr. James Arthur Gray, 62, of Opelika will be held Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. from Bethesda Baptist with interment in Memory Hill Cemetery. Rev. Herbert Slaughter will officiate.
Mr. Gray passed away Monday, January 19, 2004 at the East Alabama Medical Center. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church and it's Finance Committee. In 1959, he graduated from J.W. Darden High School. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of the V.F. W. Post 5732. Mr. Gray graduated from Opelika Technical School as a welder. Until his health declined, he was a supervisor at Opelika Welding Company. He was also a Mason.
A family hour will be held Friday at 6:00 P.M. His remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Survivors include his wife, Leslie Ross Gray, Opelika; daughters, Julia D. Ruiz, Riverdale, GA; Vanessa R. (Royzell) Hardnett and Carla B. (Randall) Lipscomb both of Opelika; grandchildren, Roytavious Hardnett, Shakierra Hardnett, Rodriquez Hardnett, Nakalia Hardnett and Starra Gray all of Opelika; Jonathan Ruiz and James Ruiz both of Riverdale, GA; sister, Lurlene (Erroll Effatt) Dixon, Fayetteville, GA;; brothers, Abram Gray, Atlanta, GA; Gabriel (Earnestine) Gray, College Park, GA; Larry (Delquitta) Gray, Opelika, AL; aunts, Ruth Gray, Opelika, AL; Marion Gray, Cincinnati, OH; caring friends Margaret Mitchell, Geneva Marshall and Henry Hodge, all of Opelika, AL; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
