Alonzo C. Noxon, one of the oldest residents of the town, died Thursday afternoon at his home on West Market street. Mr. Noxon was a son of John, and Abigail Noxon and was born In Cohoes, N. Y. February 14, 1832. He had lived In Rhinebeck for more than fifty years and was a wagon maker by trade. He was a man widely known and one who possessed many devoted friends. He had been prominently identified with public affairs. In 1884 he was elected Justice of the Peace but resigned before his term expired. He was at one time Foreman of the Pocahontas Engine Company and was at the time of his death, the oldest living member of Rhinebeck Lodge No. 162 I. O. O. F., and was also a Past Noble Grand. He had at different times, also, served as an Inspector of Election. Mr. Noxon was a trustee of the local school district from 1873 to 1877 and took a great interest in school affairs.
Mr. Noxon leaves a wife and three sons, Leslie Noxon of Rhinebeck, Elmer Noxon of Poughkeepsie and Charles Noxon of Staatsburg.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Rev. George H. Smith will officiate and the Odd Fellows service will also be rendered. The burial will be in the Rhinebeck cemetery in charge of W. Carroll and Son. The Rhinebeck Gazette, June 3, 1911
