Claribel G. Costello, 98, Manhattan, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at a Manhattan care center.

Mrs. Costello taught for many years in the Junction City school system.

She was born April 9, 1904, in Delia, the daughter of George and Ella M. Grover. She attended the Onaga school system, and she graduated from Iola High School in 1923. She graduated with a degree in education from Kansas State Agricultural College in 1927.

Mrs. Costello was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Junction City and was a 50-year and 75-year pin recipient from the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was also an avid traveler, spending time in Europe, Panama, Mexico and Canada. She moved to Manhattan in 1981.

She married John F. Costello on Oct. 27, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo. He died Aug. 10, 1979.

Survivors include two sons, John D. Costello, St. Charles, Mo., and Jerry L. Costello, McKinney, Texas; a sister, Carol Layton, Salt Lake City; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
