"MRS. McPIKE TAKEN
Mrs. Mollie McPike, 77, native of Owensboro, Ky., and resident of Biloxi for many years, died suddenly last night. She was in the best of helath yesterday, except for the general conditions of old age. This morning at 2 a.m. she complained of being ill and died at 4 a.m. She lived with her niece, Miss Mae Pearson, at East Howard avenue.

She came 25 years ago from Vidalia (Vandalia), Mo. She was the wife of Col. Aaron McPike, the founder of Vidalia, (Vandalia) Mo. Her early life was spent in Missouri. Mrs. McPike was married in Biloxi about 35 years ago and then went back to Missouri. Her maiden name was Miss Mollie Carrico.

She leaves a niece, Miss Pearson, two nephews, John Pearson of Biloxi and Harry W. Pearson, of Enterprise, and several children and grandchildren.

The funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at Church of Nativity by Father Degner with interment in Biloxi. W.J. Gilbert of New Orleans and Mr. Pearson of Enterprise will be here for the funeral."

The funeral of Mrs. Mollie McPike, who died Saturday, was held Sunday afternoon with services at the home on East Howard avenue and at the Catholic Church of Nativity by Father Degner.

The pallbearers were T. Steward, Vandalia, Mo., A. Mangin, Harry Pearson, W.J. Gilbert, New Orleans, and John Pearson Sr., and Jr."

Mary, known as Mollie, was the daughter of John W. & Mary Margaret (Willett) Carrico.

In July 1870, Mollie A. Carrico, age 19, lived with her mother, Margaret, age 46, in Owensboro, KY where she had a job as a milliner. Her mother, a tailoress (seamstress) owned land valued at $1750 & a personal wealth of $100. Other members of the family were James H. Carrico, age 28, employed as a journey carpenter, & Mary E. Carrico, age 23, a dress maker.

On June 29, 1880, Mary, age 30, lived in Vandalia, Audrain Co, MO with her sister & brother-in-law, Clinton & Kate Pearson, ages 37 & 31, & their children, May & Harry, ages 4 & 2. Clinton was employed as a dry goods merchant.

She purposes to place New Orleans and Mobile prices and styles at your door. Mrs. Kate Pearson has charge of the dress making department. She cuts by the only correct chart made, and guarantees a perfect fit in all cases; Ladies visiting from New Orleans and Mobile respectfully invited to call."

"Mrs. C. Carrico, corner of Pass Christian and Fayard streets, has a fine premium quilt and pillow-sham which will be raffled when tickets are sold. The quilt and shams are valued at $100. Tickets, 25c. each."

Mollie, still single, still owned the millinery shop when she married an elderly widow, a farmer, Aaron McPike, in Harrison Co, MS on April 30, 1891, about 37 years her senior. He was the founder of Vandalia, Audrain Co, MO in 1874, which he "Queen of the Prairie."

Sometime after their marriage they returned to MO.

On June 13, 1900, Mollie & Aaron McPike, ages 86 & 49, lived in Cuivre, Audrain Co, MO. They had been married 9 years; according to the census, Mollie had not given birth to any children.

Aaron died on Feb. 10, 1904. Sometime later Mollie joined her sister, Kate, & husband, Clint Pearson, in Biloxi.

On April 16, 1910, Mollie, McPike, age 60, lived with Clint P. & Kate Pearson, ages 66 & 61, & their daughter, May, 21, in Biloxi where they were renting a home.

Clinton was a commercial grocery traveler. May had a job as a cashier as a grocery clerk.

Kate died on June 15, 1910.

"W.F. Gorenflo sold a cottage on Seal Avenue to Mrs. Mollie McPike of Vandalia, Missouri for $2000."

On Jan. 7, 1920, Mollie McPike, age 69, was living in Biloxi. Clint P. & his daughter, Mae, ages 76 & 38, lived with her. For some reason Mae was shown as Mollie's daughter. Clint still had his job as a commercial grocery traveler; Mae was a cashier. Clinton died that same month on January 23, 1920.
