Services for Dr. Charles N. Boyd, co-director of Pittsburgh Musical Institute, Bellefield Ave., were to be held this afternoon at 3:30 at the Samson Funeral Home, Neville St.
Dr. Boyd, well-known throughout the district as a choir leader and musical instructor, died of a heart attack, Saturday at the console of the organ on which he had played many years at the musical institute.
Born in Pleasant Unity, Pa., 62 years ago, he had been a resident of Pittsburgh since 1894. He was a graduate of Western University of Pennsylvania, now University of Pittsburgh, from which he received his degree of Musical Doctor.
He was leader of many church choirs of the city and editor of serveral publications as well as author of books on music. He was past president of the Music Teachers National Assn., and officer in many musical organizations of local and national scope.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Frances Riggs Leech Boyd and four daughters, Margery Ann, Ruth, Muriel and Eileen, all of Pittsburgh. Burial will be in Homewood Cemetery.
