Henry was a Private during the Civil War, from 1862 through 1865. He served in the 97th Illinois Infantry Regiment, on the Union side. He mustered out in July 1865, in Galveston, Texas, and made his way back to his home in Fayette County, Illinois, where he resided until his death.
