Portuguese Prime Minister. Pintasilgo was the first woman to serve as the Prime Minister of Portugal. Pintasilgo served in that post from August 1, 1979 to January 3, 1980. She also served as Portugal's Ambassador to the United Nations's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). In 1986 Pintasilgo also became the first Portuguese woman to run for President of that country, but she lost. Pintasilgo passed away in July 2004 in Lisbon, Portugal, at the age of 74.
