Victoria was a daughter of Delilah Nance & an unknown man. She is proven to be a half-sister to William Edward Anderson from William's 1942 obit. Which states he was survived by a half-sister named Victoria Giles living in Creede, Colorado (obit misspells it as Crete, Colorado). The Victoria Giles of this memorial is the only person by this name found in Colorado.

We know she couldn't have been a daughter of William's father, Martin L. Anderson, because he had died in 1862 during the Civil War. Therefore, she must have been Delilah's daughter.

There is a record for a Q. V. Anderson living in the household of Alexander Gilreath in 1880 in Brushy Mountain Township, Wilkes County, NC; born about 1865 in NC, relationship to the head of the household is listed as 'other.' This could possibly & is believed to be for Victoria. If so, that would mean a possible birth name of Queen Victoria Anderson.

Victoria grew up in Wilkes County, NC. She married her first husband, James O. Ball, on 4 Oct 1886 in Wilkes County. Sometime after their first child, Oscar, was born, Victoria & her family moved to Colorado. Presumably, Conejos County where Cora, their second child, was born. After James's death in 1893, Victoria married Joseph F. Wilson in 1899 in Mineral County, CO. Two more children were born to her: Edith Olean (b.1902) & Joseph F., Jr. (b.1905).

In 1933, Joseph, Sr. passed away. Two years after his death, Victoria married Thomas C. Giles on 6 Jun 1935 in Durango, La Plata County, CO. They were together until his death 13 years later in 1948. Victoria passed away 4 years later in 1952. She was 85-86 & was survived 3 of her 4 children: Oscar J. Ball, Cora Ball Fairchild, & Edith Wilson Johnston.

Gravesite Details

I believe the W on her gravestone represents her first married name, Wilson.
